Sometimes I’m surprised at what it is that draws the ire from Democrats.
While listening to Gov. Kim Reynolds last week during her press conference, I thought perhaps her best line was:
“Don’t go. If you don’t think it’s safe, don’t go.”
That came after Reynolds tried to explain to a reporter how it is “safe” for Iowa State to allow fans to attend a football game.
Now, later in the day, ISU announced it was reversing course and fans would not be allowed to attend. But when Reynolds was asked the question, the plan was to allow 25,000 fans inside the stadium, which seats 61,500.
Honestly, if I were Reynolds, I think that 10-word closing would’ve encompassed my full 10-word answer.
And what the heck is wrong with that?
Why do Democrats dislike the idea of freedom, choice and personal responsibility so much?
That 10-word response would be my response for much of this COVID pandemic.
If you don’t feel safe without a mask, wear one.
If you don’t want to go to a bar, don’t.
If you don’t want to play football or go to school, don’t.
But it isn’t government’s job to keep people from wanting to live their lives from doing so.
If you are so scared of the Coronavirus that you don’t want to go outside to a football game, don’t. But don’t ask your government to also keep everyone else from going.
Throughout this entire pandemic, I only remember Democrats clamoring for one thing to remain open and available.
Remember the Left’s reaction when Reynolds ordered no more elective surgeries, and abortions were included.
And the sky was falling.
Democrats don’t want people to have the freedom to go to a football game. They want the government to require masks.
But they have no problem with abortions continuing as-is.
Reynolds is right, if you don’t feel safe, don’t go.
That pretty well sums up way more than what the government’s approach should be to a football game.
Let adults be adults. Let them make their own decisions — the ones they think are best for them and their families.
And, to top it off, let them live with the consequences of their decision, no matter what it is.
