According to a Waterloo parent, this is a song that is/was being taught to children in a child development program supported in Waterloo. The “Stay Safe COVID Memoir” says: “We wanna stay SAFE… during COVID-19-eeennn… (repeat) 6-feet apart Corona is out. It’s boring staying home, home, home Always wear masks to stay safe I barely can breathe because of Police and I’m worried bout COVID. Wash your hands so you can stay safe. I miss my teachers and friends at school.” It was allegedly taught/posted in the “Jump Start” program. Bold to say the least. “I barely can breathe because of police and I’m worried bout COVID-19.” Waterloo has the highest percentage of black population of any city in Iowa at 12.56 percent. Why is the district allowing this to be taught during these times in this city with the highest percentage of black population in the state?***If you appreciate what The Iowa Standard does, please consider becoming a monthly supporter.
