***At the end of every year we revisit some of our most popular stories from the calendar year. This article examines the response of a sports broadcaster called Michael Admire, who said protecting women’s sports made it a “sad day” in the state of Iowa.***

A sports broadcaster called Michael Admire called Thursday a “sad day” in Iowa after Governor Kim Reynolds signed a bill protecting women’s sports.

The bill requires athletes to participate in sports based on the biological sex listed on their birth certificate.

Admire, who is the play-by-play broadcaster for the Drake men’s basketball team and director of Drake Sports Media, included the hashtag “Let Them Play.”

The good news for Admire is they are allowed to play — they just have to play on the teams that align with their biological sex.

Admire, who lists his preferred pronouns as he/him/his, maybe is just suffering from white male privilege in that as a white male, he doesn’t have to worry about biological females coming in and trashing the integrity of male sports.
