Today, the Senate HELP Committee voted to advance President Biden’s nominee for Assistant Secretary of Health, Dr. Rachel Levine, by a vote of 13-9.
American Principles Project (APP) has announced that it opposes the nomination, and it is urging senators to vote against Levine’s confirmation.
In response to the committee vote, APP’s president Terry Schilling released the following statement:
“During last month’s confirmation hearing, Dr. Rachel Levine was asked twice whether the nominee thought children could consent to life-altering sex-change procedures. Both times, Dr. Levine sidestepped the question, refusing to give a straight answer.
“While this was not surprising given Levine’s past comments on the issue, it is deeply concerning. If confirmed to HHS, Dr. Levine would be in a position to significantly influence healthcare policy, particularly related to adolescent health. That Levine would support pushing children into highly experimental treatments to ‘change’ their sex, despite the growing evidence of the harm of these treatments, ought to be an automatic disqualifier.
“When Levine’s confirmation comes up for a full vote, each senator will be posed with a question: Do they support the elevation of radical gender ideology over biological reality at HHS? For the sake of our children’s health and well-being, APP strongly urges the Senate to reject this nomination.”
