As the Biden administration looks to repeal Title 42, Senate Democrats today blocked a commonsense, cost-saving effort by U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) to provide states with materials to construct a border barrier. If the Biden administration repeals Title 42, it is estimated that nearly 500,000 illegal immigrants could cross the southern border each month.

Earlier this year, Ernst introduced a measure—called the BUILD IT Act, or the Border’s Unused Idle and Lying Dormant Inventory Transfer Act— that would turn over unused materials purchased by taxpayers to any state wishing to construct the southern border barrier. Previously, the Biden administration has been paying contractors to “watch over” the unused materials lying in the desert.
