Iowa Auditor Rob Sand published a video on Facebook Friday night discussing President Donald Trump’s declaration of churches being “essential.”

Sand talked about growing up in Decorah and remembered his dad always locking his car and the house. He asked why his dad did that.

“He had a simple answer, we don’t want to tempt other people,” Sand said.

Trump, who Sand said has no authority to order governors to reopen churches, is “tempting people and trying to make people feel pressure that they need to be in a building, that they need to be there.”

“We don’t need to be in a building to worship God. We don’t need to be in a building to worship Jesus,” Sand added. “And if there’s one thing Christianity is clear about, it’s that it is for healing the sick. Not tempting people to spread illness to the weak and the least among us. We can do better than this.”
