Democrat Congresswoman Cindy Axne released an ad hitting Republican nominee Zach Nunn over the death of a child on Adventureland’s Raging River ride.

Here is the ad released by Axne’s campaign:

Axne’s ad was released amid 40-year record high inflation as well as a baby formula shortage. And she is politicizing the tragic death of a child that took place a year ago.

Republicans are pointing out that the legislation Nunn is attacked for supporting was also supported by Democrat Party Chair Ross Wilburn, Rep. Ras Smith (serving as a campaign staffer for Mike Franken) and Rep. Jennifer Konfrst, the Democrat leader in the Iowa House.

“From record inflation to baby formula shortages, there’s a lot Cindy Axne has to deflect about,” said RNC spokesman Kush Desai. “But trying to politicize a child’s tragic death is a classless move that says a heck of a lot more about Axne’s values than anything else.”

Nunn’s campaign called the ad “dishonest, deceitful and dishonorable.”

“Cindy Axne’s verifiable lie exploits the loss of a child for her own re-election prospects,” said Bryan Kraber, Nunn’s campaign manager. “The ad reflects Axne’s character more than anything. Iowans see through Axne’s false, DC-style smear job and are disappointed.”

Nunn’s campaign added that the legislation in question improved workforce safety and ensured juveniles could not operate advanced rides. The campaign also said no juveniles were involved in operating the Raging River.
