Axne defends ObamaCare after Texas ruling

Congresswoman-Elect Cindy Axne (D-IA 3rd District) released a statement on the Texas judge’s decision to strike down ObamaCare, the Affordable Care Act.

“Throwing away protections for people with pre-existing conditions to benefit large corporations and insurance companies is not only wrong, it’s un-American,” Axne said. “If this decision to strike down the Affordable Care Act stands, it will hurt millions of Iowans who rely on protections for pre-existing conditions, Iowans suffering from chronic illnesses, and Iowans who would not be here today without this law.”

Axne acknowledged flaws within ObamaCare, saying the law isn’t perfect. She said she would work with Republicans and Democrats in Congress to find a “real solution” to move past attempts to take away coverage.

“Let’s put party aside and work together to provide quality, affordable care for the people we were elected to serve,” Axne said.

The decision will not impact the healthcare exchange that remains open until midnight Dec. 15.
