Today, Rep. Cindy Axne (IA-03) issued the following statement ahead of a vote on a continuing resolution that would extend funding for government programs by another 21 days.

“Our nation is facing immense challenges – from ongoing efforts to support America’s public health, economic recovery and infrastructure revitalization to threats to our national security abroad. Voting to just keep the lights on for another few weeks is hardly the way for Congress to meet those challenges.

“I hear bipartisan calls every week to ensure that America can compete on the world stage – but the nations we’re competing against are not funding their priorities 21 days at a time.

“I came to Congress in the midst of a government shutdown, and I will never vote to let another shutdown happen – but preventing a shutdown is doing the bare minimum, and we need to do so much more than the minimum. We owe it to our servicemembers, our frontline workers, and the vast range of folks who rely on the predictability of our budget to reach a deal that will invest in their success for more than a handful of days at a time.”

This is the ninth continuing resolution that Congress has considered since Rep. Axne became Representative for Iowa’s Third Congressional District.
