The Iowa Standard will be sharing some of the more eye-raising comments about education issues it heard at the Capitol during the 2019 legislative session.

Today’s back-to-school flashback focuses on state Rep. Mary Mascher (D-Iowa City). Masher is a retired teacher and offered her thoughts on sex education during the legislative session.

“They help our children understand their own anatomy and they help them learn to respect their own bodies, their own rights and the rights of others,” Mascher said. “Planned Parenthood is the gold standard when it comes to high-quality education programming, not just in Iowa, but in the entire country.”
