Some Bettendorf families are not happy that their students received a survey asking about the new Education Savings Accounts — erroneously referred to as “vouchers” — from The Growl Bettendorf Student Press. The high school newspaper sent students the following information:

Private School Voucher-  Gov. Reynolds has signed a bill that will allow any Iowa family to use taxpayer funds of up to $7,598 a year to pay for private school tuition — at a cost of $345 million annually to the state once fully phased in. If you would like to give student input for a Growl piece on the private school voucher, please complete the survey linked below.

Will you take advantage of this voucher?
Yes
No

Why or why not, is it fair?

Would you be willing to be interviewed?
Yes
No

If so, what is your name?

Parents were not notified of the survey.

“Parents know what is best for their children,” one Bettendorf parent told The Iowa Standard. “Concerning the Iowa school choice bill, there has been a significant amount of misinformation. Such as calling this a school voucher.”
