Last week, President Biden unveiled a new drug price plan that would give the government more control over the health care industry. This plan would lead to drug rationing, and according the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, it would also lead to less development of potentially life-saving drugs.

Stifling this innovation would be costly in future pandemics. A large reason we’ve been able to begin defeating this pandemic is because the private sector spent considerable time and money innovating and coming up with life-saving vaccines.

Additionally, new polling shows that when the American people here what the plan actually does, they do not support it.

Congress should reject efforts from the administration to take more control over Americans’ health care.

There is a better way to address the costs of prescription drugs. Lawmakers should consider a personal option that would include:

  1. Faster Drug Approvals
  2. More Generic Competition
  3. Tax-Free Savings for All
  4. Legal Drug Importation
  5. Better Medicare Drug Coverage

Americans for Prosperity has proposed such a plan. Click here to learn more about it.
