President Joe Biden called into the campaign headquarters for Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday to encourage support for Harris in her bid for the 2024 nomination.

Biden’s speech was “disturbingly slurred and raspy” in the call. He told the audience he knows his decision to drop out was “surprising” and hard to hear.

“But it was the right thing to do,” he said. “I know it’s hard because you’ve poured your heart and soul into me to help us win this thing, help me get this nomination, help me win the nomination and then go on to win the presidency.”

Biden’s struggles to speak came despite letters from his doctor released by the White House claiming his symptoms from COVID have all but resolved.

Biden has not been seen publicly since returning to Rehoboth last week after testing positive for COVID despite numerous vaccinations. According to reports, he did not notify White House and campaign staff before announcing he was dropping out of the race.
