Presidennt Joe Biden praised Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle for her “decades of public service” following her resignation on Tuesday. Cheatle resigned her position following a disastrous hearing in front of a congressional committee centered on the assassination attempt of President Donald J. Trump.

“(Cheatle) has selflessly dedicated and risked her life to protect our nation throughout her career in the United States Secret Service,” Biden said. “We especially thank her for answering the call to lead the Secret Service during our Administration and we are grateful for her service to our family.”

Biden added that it takes “honor, courage and incredible integrity” as a leader to take full responsibility for an organization tasked with “one of the most challenging jobs in public service.”

Biden also said that the “independent review” of the assassination attempt will continue.
