Joe Biden said on Twitter that he will “defeat” the NRA and end America’s “epidemic” of gun violence.
The pledge came in response to a post by former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.
For its part, the NRA has consistently warned about the prospects of a Biden presidency. In an article published in late 2020, gun owners are warned to be ready for an “onslaught.”
This is not necessarily anything new. Biden’s own website has promoted past victories against the NRA. He helped the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act in 1993 make it through as well as a 10-year ban on some weapons and magazines in the following year.
Among his plans:
*Hold gun manufacturers accountable
*Get weapons of war off our streets
*Ban the manufacture and sale of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines
*Regulate possession of existing assault weapons under the National Firearms Act
*Buy back the assault weapons and high-capacity magazines already in communities
*Reduce stockpiling of weapons
*Keep guns out of dangerous hands
There are others.
Lofty anti-Second Amendment goals. After what we saw on Wednesday at the Capitol, the last thing we need to imagine is a country in which the government actually goes after the guns of its citizens.
