Although numerous polls show a faltering economy and skyrocketing inflation top voters’ concerns, President Joe Biden promised Tuesday to make signing a law legalizing late-term abortion nationwide his first priority next year — a vow one Republican congressman called “absolutely wicked” and agreed reflected a demonic agenda.

If Democrats win the 2022 midterm elections, “Here is the promise I make to you and the American people: The first bill that I will send to the Congress will be to codify Roe v. Wade. And when Congress passes it, I’ll sign it in January, 50 years after Roe was first decided the law of the land,” said Biden on Tuesday afternoon at Washington’s Howard Theatre. The bill he referred to — H.R. 3755, which supporters dub the “Women’s Health Protection” Act — would go well beyond Roe by striking down nearly every pro-life law in all 50 states, including health regulations designed to protect women’s reproductive health, parental consent or notification laws, and laws restricting late-term abortions after the point of viability if an abortionist believes pregnancy would harm the “health” of the mother.

Pro-life leaders highlighted the extreme legislation’s lack of popular support. “President Biden’s desperate attempt to sway voters by pushing painful abortions is clear evidence of how out of touch he is. Ninety percent of Americans reject Biden’s view that abortion should be legal up until birth for any reason — paid for by taxpayers,” said March for Life President Jeanne Mancini. “Our country is facing significant challenges and looking for positive solutions, not more violence and death.”

“Only 8% of Americans agree with Stacey Abrams, Raphael Warnock, Mark Kelly, Katie Hobbs, Catherine Cortez Masto, John Fetterman, and other Democratic candidates who support unlimited abortion, paid for by taxpayers, up to the moment of birth,” agreed Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America. “Doubling down on an extreme agenda of abortion on demand until birth won’t stop Democrats from losing Congress, even with the abortion industry spending record sums to elect them.”

“It’s a failing message for Democrats. People in America do not want abortion up to the point of birth,” Rep. Jody Hice (R-Ga.) told “Washington Watch with Tony Perkins” Tuesday. The rising cost of living “is the number one issue I hear” while traveling through his home state. “The second issue has got to be crime, and that starts on the southern border. We have fentanyl coming across the border, criminals coming across the border, crime waves across our state.”

Voters have not rewarded Democrats’ attempts to make the 2022 midterms a referendum on Roe v. Wade. A poll from The New York Times and Siena College found a 23-point shift away from Democrats to Republicans among the Left’s target audience: women registered as Independents.

The trend away from those who embrace an extreme, no-limits stance favoring abortion-on-demand seemed to hold nationwide, especially in swing states. “We looked at 11 states where there are Republican governors who have signed some form of meaningful pro-life legislation,” such as a heartbeat bill, FRC Action Vice President Brent Keilen told Perkins later in the show. “In all 11, those Republican governors are up in the polling.” Keilen encouraged voters to read and share the iVoter guide, available from FRC Action.

“What I am seeing is an outright rejection of this radical left-wing, socialist agenda that the Democrats are trying to cram down the throats of the American people,” Hice told Perkins.

Nonetheless, Biden tried to stir voters’ emotions on Tuesday, imploring voters to “remember how you felt the day the … Dobbs decision came down and Roe was overturned after 50 years.” Overturning Roe, he added, is “not just affecting [the] young generation. It’s affecting children, moms, grandmoms, grandpops — entire generations.”

Biden contended the “the right to birth control” (decreed by the Supreme Court in 1965), abortion (1973), and same-sex “marriage” (2015) are “ingrained in the fabric of this country” before trailing off, “Anyway, I don’t want to get started.” He also referred to Senator Lindsey Graham’s (R-S.C.) “national ban” on abortion — omitting the fact that the bill allows abortions until 15 weeks, as well as in cases of rape, incest, and to save the life of the mother.

The president’s dogged insistence on discussing abortion, even as surveys reveal the strategy has backfired, indicate something deeper may be afoot, Perkins and Hice agreed.

While Americans worry about tight home budgets and surging home heating costs, the Biden administration’s “focus is on the issue of abortion, on transgenderism,” said Family Research Council President Tony Perkins. “It’s frankly mind-boggling. If I didn’t think that there was some kind of demonic agenda here, it would be hard to explain.”

“I think that’s ultimately how you do explain it,” replied Hice, a former pastor.

“If I were to pick a figure out of the Old Testament, that would be equivalent to [Biden], it would be the King Manasseh, who brought that nation down because he actually promoted child sacrifice. It is, quite frankly, just wicked,” said Perkins.

“It’s absolutely wicked,” Hice replied.

“Let me just let me just put a word out to the body of Christ, to people of faith all across this country,” Hice concluded. “There is a such thing as right and wrong, and the things that we are watching take place in this country right now are absolutely wrong. There is no excuse for our voices not to be heard at the ballot box, right now more than ever.”
