In the latest example of the supposed “Party unity” moderate and establishment Republicans love to demand of others but not for themselves, Congressman Kevin McCarthy continues to hold a grudge against some of his Republican colleagues who voted to remove him from the Speaker’s role earlier this year.
McCarthy, who made history by being the first Speaker to have the motion to vacate the chair pass, told CNN that the Republican conference will not “ever heal” if there are not “consequences” for the “crazy eight” Republicans.
He said that the GOP would benefit “tremendously” if Congressman Matt Gaetz fails to be re-elected. McCarthy added that Gaetz doesn’t have a “conservative bend” to his philosophy.
McCarthy accused Representatives Nancy Mace and Tim Burchett of caring more about press than policy.
He predicted Mace would have a difficult time winning re-election, noting her philosophy and her “flip-flopping” will make it hard for her to be re-elected.
In response, Mace told CNN that McCarthy “lied all the time.”
“Like every day,” she said. “I mean, he told conservatives he was absolutely gonna impeach Joe Biden. Two hours later, the same day, told moderates that he would never impeach Joe Biden, a guy like that can’t lead our country. And we’ve moved on to a much better Speaker who’s honest and trustworthy and is going to tell the truth.”
