U.S. Border Patrol Agents seizes approximately 850 pounds of marijuana in 10 days.

Patrol Agent in Charge of the Van Horn Station Jose Aleman said, “These seizures are a result of our agents’ resiliency and the coordinated efforts with a variety of agencies working to combat transnational criminal organizations that operate in our communities.”

From May 19, to May 28, Border Patrol Agents assigned to the Van Horn Station worked the rugged terrain near Van Horn, Texas and tracked down subjects carrying makeshift burlap backpacks that contained marijuana.  The total marijuana seizure of approximately 850 pounds was the result of four different events that occurred during the ten day period.  Over the course of the four events, Border Patrol was assisted by multiple agencies including CBP Air and Marine Operations, Texas Department of Public Safety, El Paso Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The seizures were attributed to the agents’ knowledge of the vast terrain and collaborated efforts of the local, state, and federal partners. The total value of the narcotics seized have a street value of over half a million dollars. A total of 12 subjects, citizens and nationals of Mexico and Honduras, were apprehended in connection with these events.

The narcotics and 12 subjects were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
