Border Patrol agents arrested a convicted murderer from Mexico after he illegally entered the United States on the evening of June 4.

On June 4, at approximately 5 p.m., agents saw an individual cross the border illegally around one and one-half miles west of the San Ysidro Port of Entry.

The agents responded, arrested the man, and transported him to a nearby Border Patrol station for processing.

At the station, record checks revealed that the man, 59 year-old Mario Sagasta Rodriguez, had been convicted of murder in 1985 in the Superior Court of California.  He served more than 30 years in prison for the conviction and was deported in February 2017.  Since 1978, Sagasta had been convicted of numerous misdemeanors and felonies, ranging from burglary to murder.

San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Douglas Harrison said, “I am proud of the great work Border Patrol agents demonstrated in halting a previously convicted murderer from re-entering the United States.”
