U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry intercepted a significant amount of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $2.2 million in one enforcement action over the weekend.

“This was an excellent interception by our CBP officers,” said Port Director Albert Flores, Laredo Port of Entry. “The job of a CBP officer at one of the busiest ports on the Southwest border is not an easy one, especially when working in the sweltering temperatures we had over the weekend.”

The seizure occurred on Friday, July 12 at the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge when a CBP officer referred a 2015 Audi Sport Utility Vehicle, driven by a 57-year-old Mexican citizen from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico for a secondary examination. During a canine and non-intrusive imaging system inspection, CBP officers discovered 24 packages containing 111 pounds of alleged methamphetamine within the vehicle. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $2,224,882.

CBP officers seized the narcotics and the vehicle. The driver was arrested and the case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
