U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Eagle Pass Station arrested two men with history of violence over the weekend.

“These arrests serve as a reminder of the dangerous criminals we stop at our nation’s borders,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Austin L. Skero II. “Thanks to the hard work and vigilance of our agents, these two men are behind bars and no longer a threat to our communities.”

On Jan. 23, Border Patrol agents assigned to the Eagle Pass Station arrested John Juarez-Cruz, a citizen of Honduras, shortly after he illegally entered the United States. During processing, agents discovered Juarez-Cruz was convicted of child abuse in Nebraska in 2018, and sentenced to 364 days incarceration. He was most recently removed from the United States in 2019.

On Jan. 25, Eagle Pass Station agents arrested Gerardo Castillo-Velasquez, 48, a citizen of Honduras, shortly after he illegally entered the United States. During processing, agents discovered that Castillo-Velasquez was convicted of sexual battery in Louisiana. He was sentenced to 46 days incarceration and was most recently removed from the United States in 2019.

As convicted felons, they each face a charge of 8 USC § 1326 – Re-entry after Deportation, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
