Buchanan County GOP writes Ernst in support of Hegseth, asks her to immediately detail concerns or signal a vote for his confirmation

The Buchanan County Republicans have sent a letter to Sen. Joni Ernst asking her to express her concerns immediately about Pete Hegseth’s nomination for Secretary of Defense or signal her support for the nomination.

“We are the GOP committee for Buchanan County and have noticed your reluctance regarding confirmation of Pete Hegseth,” the letter starts. “This is a striking and contrarian perspective to your seemingly rubber-stamped approvals for Biden’s eccentric cabinet and non-domestic funding of Ukraine.”

According to the letter, 76 percent voter turnout in Buchanan County led to a “decidedly ” selection of President Donald J. Trump.

“We have watched Mr. Hegseth’s unabashed candor and anticipate his implementation will be no less genuine,” the letter states. “Accordingly, unless you identify a legitimate concern against utilizing Mr. Hegseth as Secretary of Defense, we anticipate your conformity to President-elect Trump’s methodology.”

If Ernst has concerns about Hegseth, the group is asking Ernst to “please air them immediately.”

“Further, should you have conflicts of interest of your own aspirations, declare them openly,” the letter states. “We, the taxpayers and constituents of Buchanan County, have lost patience with forever wars and D.C.’s inflation-generating spending, exasperating our economy over the last four years. Certainly, we keep tally of your efforts.”

The group said short of Ernst declaring a viable reason not to confirm Hegseth, it expects she will immediately signal she will vote to confirm Hegseth, as well as the rest of Trump’s nominations.

Two years ago, Ernst was censured by at least 17 Iowa GOP county central committees due to votes she took on the Respect for Marriage Act as well as anti-gun policies.
