Democrat Iowa State Sen. Tony Bisignano issued stern criticism of a push by Catholic bishops to deny President Joe Biden communion due to Biden’s support for abortion. Bisignano, like Biden, is a Democrat who supports a mother’s right to choose whether or not her unborn baby lives or dies.

“Deny Biden, deny all pro-choice Catholics,” Bisignano wrote. “This is a travesty to allow right-wing politics to play in our church. This should be an edict from the Pope, not from extremist right-wing politically motivated bishops. A local option on rules to receive a sacrament? Ask all pro-choice Catholics to stop tithing to the church in areas where this would be implemented. That’s putting your money where your mouth is.”

Bisignano then entered into an exchange with an individual on Facebook who said there is “no such thing as a pro-choice Catholic. Never has been.”

The individual explained to Bisignano that abortion ends the life of a baby.

“No Catholic can support that. No explanation needed,” they said.

Bisignano said he is Catholic and supports a woman’s right to choose.

“You support a woman’s right to choose because it’s a huge part of your political party’s narrative,” the individual responded. “My faith is not affected by political narrative. Never has been. Never will be.”
