On Wednesday, the Iowa Legislature gave final approval to SF 577, a bill that would allow mothers who go through a miscarriage to receive a “nonviable birth” certificate for their child, recognizing that child’s humanity and existence. The bill was inspired by successful programs in Nebraska and Florida and originally suggested by Kristen Stiffler, an Iowan in the Des Moines metro area.

We are thankful for Sen. Amy Sinclair and Rep. Carter Nordman carrying this bill through the Senate and House, hopefully offering consolation to grieving parents.
