Democrat State Rep. Liz Bennett took exception to Rep. Skyler Wheeler using the term “biological male” during floor debate on Monday. Wheeler was talking about biological males being allowed to play sports with other biological males — and not biological females.
The bill, which passed the House, makes it so only biological females can play female sports in Iowa. But Bennett said that “trans girls are girls.”
Wheeler had just started his closing remarks.
“If they are a biological male, they get to bowl on the males’ team,” he said.
That’s when Bennett called for a point of order.
After Bennett said the term biological male is a slur, Wheeler responded it is not, and added:
“That’s insane.”
