Liberty Counsel is currently representing pastors and churches in five different federal lawsuits. The five cases are against the governors of California, Illinois, Kentucky, Virginia and Maine.

What do all five governors have in common?

They are all Democrats.

In California, Harvest Rock Church and Harvest International Ministry are standing up to Gov. Gavin Newsom, who has banned all worship — even home Bible studies and fellowship in a chilling overreach. Punishment includes jail time and compounding fines. The Pasadena prosecutor has threatened to criminally charge each person who attends worship. The penalty is one year in prison.

In Illinois, Elim Romanian Pentecostal Church and Logos Baptist Ministries are taking on Gov. J.B. Pritzker. Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot has enforced Pritzker’s orders. Lightfoot has threatened to seize and destroy church buildings and properties that refuse to obey Pritzker’s orders, such as limiting worship to 10 people regardless of the size of the sanctuary.

In Kentucky, Maryville Baptist Church of Hillview is challenging Gov. Andy Beshear. Beshear gave every attendee of an Easter Sunday, outdoor, stay-in-your-own-car services, the equivalent of a 14-day house arrest. Liberty Counsel already won two 3-0 victories at the court of appeals, but Beshear wants to reimpose the restrictions.

Lighthouse Fellowship of Chincoteqgue Island is in court against Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam. Northam has attempted to shut down churches and has sent police cars to man the church parking lot, waiting to arrest or scare away potential attendees. The pastor was criminally charged for having 16 people in a 293-seat sanctuary. Liberty Counsel was successful in getting the criminal charge dismissed.

Finally, Calvary Chapel of Bangor is engaged with Maine Gov. Janet Mills. Mills demands churches apply for her permission to open. And, they may only open under her restrictions. She’ll then grant a “Governor Approved Church” badge on the door.

In addition to being Democrats, Liberty Counsel says these governors also encourage lawless riots, they’re extreme abortion and Planned Parenthood advocates and pay zero respect to religious liberty.

“Those willing to murder the unborn should never be trusted to govern the living,” Liberty Counsel said.
