Eddie Mauro, one of the Democrats running for the nomination to take on Sen. Joni Ernst this fall, sent out a fundraising email last week touting the endorsement of Rep. Ras Smith (D-Waterloo).

And the two are fundraising of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Ras really needs our support right now because his community is at the front and center of a national debate to reopen our economy. The Tyson meatpacking plant in Waterloo has been ordered to continue operating by Donald Trump — which subsequently opens hundreds of Rep. Smith’s constituents and millions of Americans to an increased threat of the Coronavirus.

“If we’re going to help Ras protect the folks of Waterloo — and people across the country — then we need to flip the Senate. Only then can we truly stop Trump’s dangerous, reckless and deadly leadership.

“Iowa, can you split a contribution between Ras and Eddie so they can work together to lead during this crisis at home in Iowa and in Washington?”

Not sure if it is appropriate to fundraise of a national pandemic, but it clearly isn’t stopping Democrats from trying.
