Des Moines Public Schools’ Central Academy shared on its Twitter page photos from a group of students who walked out of classes for an hour on March 11 to protest the law protecting girls’ sports.

“They marched in cold weather to the Governor’s mansion and back a couple of times and chanted outside the school to draw attention to their cause,” the tweet said.

KCCI reported more than 100 students walked out. Des Moines Public Schools said it counts absences for the students who missed class, though they support students’ right to free speech.
