Last week we told you about an instructor at the University of Iowa’s College of Education called Eric McKinley Thompson. For Thompson, who is the instructor of a required course called “Foundations of Education,” it is “always about race.” And, he ensures future educators are educated on things like “Driving While Black” and “sundown towns.”

The Iowa Standard was also told that during one class, Thompson had students shout out “white names” during class. At first, we are told students were reluctant, shouting names like “Skyler and Mike.”

One person told us the exercise was “irrelevant” to the class material but also “wildly offensive.”

We emailed Thompson last week and asked him what the purpose of that exercise was, but he has not responded. If he does, we’ll publish his answer.
