U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released the following statement after Senate Democrats blocked an effort to reinstate sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline:

“The United States maintains peace and protection at home through upholding alliances with partners around the world. Allowing the completion of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline is a gift to Vladimir Putin and a national security threat for the United States. It gives Putin a powerful means to isolate Ukraine from a strong and reliable revenue source while entangling the energy sectors of our European allies with Russia. Today my Democratic colleagues sided with the failed Biden foreign policy doctrine of appeasement of American adversaries. Democrats’ refusal to stand up to Putin harms our ability to protect ourselves and support our partner, Ukraine.”

Ernst previously detailed steps America should take to counter Russian aggression against Ukraine in an op-ed she wrote last month.

  1. This is nuts. Ukraine is not our partner, and no Americans (except the warmongers and politicians being bankrolled by defense contractors) care what happens there. Our own country is being invaded on our southern border, and Ernst is worried about Ukraine’s borders. That is absurd. Americans are sick of sending our good people to die for other countries.
