Today, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), a combat veteran of the Global War on Terrorism, released the following video message reflecting on September 11, 2001.

Ernst’s full remarks:

“September 11, 2001, was full of uncertainty and devastation, but America responded with strength and resilience.

“The American spirit was tested, but the world saw it emerge stronger than ever.

“Today, we remember how, in the face of horror, America came together.

“Firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and medical professionals ran toward danger and jumped to action to save their fellow citizens.

“This day reminds me of the 20 years of countless men and women in uniform, including the 150 Iowa Army National Guard soldiers that I led into Operation Iraqi Freedom, who took up the call to serve their country, fight the terrorists, and prevent another attack on our homeland.

“Years later, I reaffirm our commitment to Never Forget.

“Today, join me in taking the time to honor those lives that were lost on 9/11 and thank the men and women who wear our nation’s uniform to safeguard our freedoms.

“May God continue to protect these great United States of America!”
