As of just after midnight Wednesday, Solid Rock Church of God Centerville Iowa’s Facebook post about the nativity scene removal had received 889 reactions, 959 comments and 734 shares.
Ron Creagan left a comment on Facebook: “Put it back where it has always been. If they don’t like it they don’t have to look at it. Let them sue us if they want to. Sorry I feel that way but I’m offended by it not being there. Next thing they will want us to quit hanging Christmas lights. Not going to happen.”
Tarah Kovacevich said, “it’s funny that the city of Centerville would be facing lawsuit, yet every surrounding community proudly displays their nativity scene on city/county property and have for decades! No lawsuits there. Absolutely disgraceful.”
Cindy Fluegge said she livers in nearby Albia. “We have a huge nativity set on our courthouse lawn. We also have Santa and reindeer and all kinds of Christmas decorations. I remember when we were threatened with a lawsuit to take the crosses down at Welcome Home Soldier Memorial. Luckily the town did not back down and the crosses still stand.”
