In the summer of 2020, then VP-candidate Kamala Harris famously said she “applauded” Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s decision to cut police funding by $150 million. Harris told ABC:
“I support investing in communities so that they become more healthy and therefore more safe. I applaud Mayor Garcetti for doing what he’s done.”
In 2022, it was reported that an individual who was released with the help of a Minnesota bail fund group endorsed by Harris had been charged with murder. Harris highlighted the Minnesota Freedom Fund on her social media during the 2020 Black Lives Matter riots.
