Frank Gaffney called on Congressman Kevin McCarthy to withdraw his bid for Speaker on Wednesday. Gaffney, the president of Center for Security Policy, said recent insights into McCarthy’s “character” show he is “unworthy of the public trust.”

Before voting began earlier this week and despite uncertainty he would win the Speaker job, McCarthy moved his office into the Speaker’s suite. During a Republican caucus before the first of three unsuccessful votes, McCarthy announced he had “earned this G– d— job.”

In that same caucus meeting, it is reported that McCarthy and an ally threatened potential defectors with severe punishments by barring them from serving on House committees.

“Kevin McCarthy is unfit and should withdraw,” Gaffney wrote.
