Republican State Rep. Brent Siegrist withdrew his candidacy from the primary race in House District 19, but he still hopes to be re-elected in November.

Siegrist said he had more than enough signatures when he filed, but enough signatures were from a precinct in his current district, not his new one.

“I didn’t catch that and that is totally my fault,” Siegrist said. “So, I was short a couple of signatures.”

He withdrew his papers so that his county can hold a special nominating convention as soon as possible where he believes he will run and win the nomination.

“As the only Republican who filed in House District 19, I hope that will be the end result,” he said.
