Thursday marked the 59th annual Iowa Prayer Breakfast. However, this year’s version was unique as it had to be held virtually due to the COVID-19 crisis.

Gov. Kim Reynolds addressed the virtual gathering.

“Prayer has always been a big part of who I am, but I have to tell you, never has it been as important or as powerful for me as it is today in the midst of this COVID-19 pandemic,” she said. “Your prayers keep me going and give me strength, especially during these times when the decisions I make are affecting people’s lives and livelihoods.”

Reynolds then shared Isaiah 41:10, which states, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

“Whether we are on the frontlines and delivering healthcare to sick people, at home doing the right thing and social distancing to slow the spread, or involved in making decisions to impact the well-being of Iowans, we are all children of God and need to let our faith in Him be our guide,” Reynolds said.

Reynolds said now more than ever Iowans should pray for each other, pray for their neighbor and pray for all who are in need of aide and those on the front lines delivering it.

State Sen. Ken Rozenboom read a few Old Testament passages. Adam Gregg, lieutenant governor, read a few New Testament passages. Rep. Sandy Salmon provided the opening prayer.
