Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds proclaimed Thursday, May 13 Peace in Israel Day.

“I encourage all Iowans to pray for peace and show our solidarity with the people of Israel during this difficult time for their nation,” Reynolds said.

The proclamation acknowledges that Israel has been America’s “strongest ally” in the Middle East for more than half a century. She highlighted violent threats from “radical extremists like Hamas, which the U.S. designated as a terrorist organization in 1997.”

More than 1,000 rockets have been launched into Israel in recent days from Palestinian terrorists, the proclamation states.

“The State of Iowa resolves that Israel has a right to defend itself from Hamas and other extremist militant groups and its people have the right to live in safety and security.”
