U.S. Senator Charles Grassley (R) and Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds (R) have gained early leads in Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate’s State Fair Straw Poll. As of 1:00 P.M. this afternoon, more than 1,400 individuals have cast votes for their preferred candidates. The votes are tabulated on iPads at the Iowa Secretary of State’s booth in the northwest corner of the Varied Industries Building at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.

For the U.S. Senate race, Chuck Grassley (R) is leading the field with 60% of the vote compared to Michael Franken (D) with 32% of the current total vote.

“The State Fair Straw Poll is a fun way to get a snapshot of what Iowans want to see in the general election,” Secretary Pate said. “Historically, this Straw Poll has been a pretty accurate indicator of the way races play out, so I’m interested to see the final results at the end of the fair.”

In the race for Iowa Governor, Kim Reynolds (R) leads with 54% of the vote, Deidre DeJear (D) reaches second with 28% of the vote and Rick Stewart (Libertarian) holds 13% of total votes cast in that race.

Secretary Pate is also polling the four U.S. House races for the 2022 general election. In the First Congressional District Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R) leads with roughly 58% of the vote compared to Christina Bohannan (D) with 33% of the vote. In Iowa’s Second Congressional District, Ashley Hinson currently holds 62% of the current vote total compared to Liz Mathis (D) with 27%.

In Iowa’s Third Congressional District, Zach Nunn (R) leads with 59% of the vote compared to Cindy Axne’s 36% share of the vote. In the Fourth Congressional District, Randy Feenstra (R) currently holds 59% of the vote, Ryan Melton (D) holds roughly 23% of the vote, and Bryan Jack Holder (Liberty Caucus) has roughly 14% of current votes cast.

This year Secretary Pate is also polling people’s favorite part of the Iowa State Fair. Fair Food is holding a demanding share of the vote with 35%, but ‘People Watching’ is just behind with 23% of the vote.

The poll will continue throughout the Iowa State Fair. Real time results are available on the Iowa Secretary of State’s website, sos.iowa.gov/strawpoll. All results are unscientific and intended for entertainment purposes only.
