U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley says he opposes H.R. 550, the Immunization Infrastructure Modernization Act.

“H.R. 550 would direct the Department of Health and Human Services to create a strategy on how to improve immunization information systems,” Grassley wrote. “It would also direct HHS to set data and technology standards for use in these systems. The bill also authorizes funding for grants to health departments and other government agencies to help them improve their immunization information systems.”

Grassley said he will vote against the bill if it is considered in the Senate.

“I do not support authorizing $400 million in wasteful spending to circumvent the role of states in managing their immunization information systems,” he said. “Furthermore, I am aware of concerns about this bill increasing the federal government’s role in immunization records.”
