The Iowa Standard was able to join Sen. Chuck Grassley’s “Capitol Hill Report” on Monday. We are publishing his responses to questions individually.

He was asked about rising concerns with inflation:

“Think of the comparisons now with the long gasoline lines, the talk of inflation — at 4.3 percent is the most inflation that we’ve had since 2008, and I’ll bet you got to go back 40 years for it to be repeated another time. And also, what’s going on in Israel. Inflation, long gas lines, people lining up for gas and what’s going on in Israel is reminiscent of the Carter years. We should’ve learned a lesson from history.

“Particularly, you mentioned inflation, remember that in 1973 it was, it was ’74 when I first ran for Congress, it was 12.3 percent. When I was elected in the United States Senate it was 12.5 percent. I first ran for Congress on a platform that said something on my bumper sticker ‘The Inflation Fighter.’ And I fought inflation before and I’ll do it again.”
