Fans of the National Football League and Americans who want to help make something positive come out of the Damar Hamlin injury came together Monday night to help raise money for Hamlin’s “Chasing M’s Foundation.”

Hamlin organized the fundraiser on Go Fund Me. He wrote in the summary of the fundraiser that as he starts his NFL journey, he’ll never forget where he came from.

“I am committed to using my platform to positively impact the community that raised me,” he wrote.

He created The Chasing M’s Foundation to help him deliver that impact. The first program was the 2020 Community Toy Drive.

Hamlin’s goal was to raise $2,500.

As of 11:07 p.m. Iowa time on Monday night, the Go Fund Me had raised more than $1.3 million. It took off after Hamlin became a national story due to his injury.
