Johnston businesswoman Nicole Hasso is proud to announce her candidacy for Iowa House District 43, a seat currently held by Representative Eddie Andrews.  Andrews, who is running for governor, quickly endorsed Hasso’s campaign.

Hasso is an award-winning financial professional who has dedicated her career to serving others and helping Iowa families, small businesses, and family farms secure their financial futures.  Now, she is running for the Iowa House to protect Iowa’s future for our children and future generations.

Hasso and her husband, Mitch, have lived in Johnston for 22 years.  The two met in college while she was attending Drake University.  They have two children, both of whom attended Johnston public schools. For six generations, the Hasso family has proudly called Iowa home, and Nicole is honored to continue that tradition.

Hasso is an advocate for strong families and strong communities, where faith, hard work, and helping others form the foundation of our values.  As a parent, she champions families and students in our local schools, and her volunteer work reflects her deep commitment to service.  She supports young women through Embrace Grace and engages families in ministry at her local church.  Her corporate volunteer efforts include partnering with United Way of Central Iowa.  “That same spirit of service motivates me to run for office: to serve our community and make a meaningful difference.  We intend to run on a simple premise: to help all Iowans and make the great state of Iowa even greater,” Hasso said.

Hasso is focused on issues that genuinely improve the quality of life in the state of Iowa.  Key issues include:

  • Protecting property rights.
  • Providing property tax relief.
  • Growing our workforce by attracting and retaining top employers.
  • Being a champion for small businesses.
  • Protecting our most vulnerable—from the youngest to the oldest.
  • Fighting for our farmers, as they feed the world and fuel the future.
  • Supporting working families.
  • Making our education system the best in the country.
  • Investing in trade education and apprenticeships.
  • Helping students take the next step toward college.
  • Keeping young people in Iowa by expanding opportunities.

Hasso enters the race with significant advantages in addition to the Andrews endorsement.  She has gained both local and national recognition, having run for the GOP nomination in Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District in 2022.  She earned the National Republican Congressional Committee’s exclusive Young Guns designation and was named by House Republican Caucus Chair Elise Stefanik the Elevate PAC ‘Woman to Watch.’

“We have experience competing in tough races,” Hasso said.  “Our campaign combines candidate name recognition, campaign experience, proven campaign organization, financial resources, a strong donor network, and the largest team of volunteers—all of which are essential to winning.  We have the experience, organization, and resources needed to reach voters and mobilize turnout.”

Hasso has already launched a robust neighborhood canvassing program focused on voter outreach and meeting residents.  “As your Representative in the Iowa House,” Hasso said, “I want to meet you where you are—whether you are a mom or dad, teacher, tradesperson, veteran, business leader, or police officer.  I am running to listen to what matters to you and to give you a voice in the state legislature, because I believe reasonable people of goodwill can share ideas, find common ground, and work together to make Iowa a great place for all.”
