Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-01) and Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) led 50 of their colleagues in urging President Biden to rescind his Executive Order requiring federal agencies to purchase “Zero Emission” Vehicles (ZEVs) by 2035. Executive Order 14057 was signed on December 8, 2021, and would require federal agencies to purchase only ZEVs such as electric vehicles. This mandate disregards the availability of clean liquid fuels, like ethanol, that would reduce carbon emissions in the existing federal vehicle fleet and strengthen U.S. energy independence.

Most critical materials necessary to manufacture electric vehicles are produced in Communist China or in areas under the influence of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Electric vehicle mandates create an energy dependency on our greatest foreign adversary and disregard domestic resources like Iowa biofuels.

The full letter can be read here.

“Iowa’s biofuel producers stand ready to solve our fuel supply challenges and bring down energy costs today, but the Administration is sidelining this readily available, low-carbon option to pursue its unrealistic obsession with electric vehicles. President Biden’s Executive Order ignores the benefits of readily available biofuels and relies on offshore supply chains controlled by the Chinese Communist Party—delivering a win to our greatest adversary and a gut-punch to Iowa’s biofuel producers and the American energy industry,” said Congresswoman Ashley Hinson. “The Administration needs to rescind this out-of-touch Executive Order and work with our renewable fuel industry to bolster national security, create American jobs, and lower emissions.
