Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-01) released the below statement calling for further investigation into stolen COVID-19 funds. According to a report issued by the U.S. Department of Labor last week, a “significant portion” of improper pandemic-related unemployment payments were attributable to fraud. While the exact amount of stolen funds is unknown, there have been multiple reports that hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars were lost.

“I am incredibly concerned by the rampant fraud and abuse that plagued pandemic-related relief programs, with potentially hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars stolen. There must be a full investigation into the theft of COVID-19 funds to ensure every taxpayer dollar is accounted for and that Americans’ personal information is secured. I will continue pushing for accountability and working to ensure the perpetrators are caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.” – Congresswoman Ashley Hinson
