I’m Ashley Hinson. I was born and raised in Iowa, and now my husband Matt and I are raising our two boys, Max (11) and Jax (9), in Marion. Before running for office, I was an on-air reporter at KCRG-TV 9 in Cedar Rapids, where I covered our highs and lows — from the devastating flood in 2008 to community milestones and celebrations. I was honored that people trusted me to tell their stories and eventually, I asked for Iowans’ trust to serve them in the Iowa State House, and then in Congress.

After my 2018 State House race, I was picking up yard signs with Matt when I got a call from my friend Senator Joni Ernst. She congratulated me and then asked if I had thought about running for Congress in Iowa’s First District. I was humbled by the call and knew it was a really important time to consider running, as Nancy Pelosi was again the Speaker of the House. I thought to myself, how could I look Max and Jax in the eye and say I am doing everything possible to ensure they have the brightest possible future if I didn’t step up to run and fight for it? My boys have always been my motivation.

I decided to run for Congress in 2020 because I saw the chaos and dysfunction in Washington, DC, and was worried about the direction our country was headed and what it meant for the next generation. I ran to stand up for working families and taxpayers, keep our streets and neighborhoods safe, and ensure Iowa’s rural and agriculture communities have a seat at the table.

The chaos and dysfunction in Washington is alive and well under President Biden and Speaker Pelosi. We’ve experienced the horrific results of just a year and a half of complete Democratic control: record high inflation, $5 gas, a nationwide spike in crime, mounting debt, open borders, and America taking a backseat on the world stage. The Biden-Pelosi agenda is making our country unrecognizable and robbing our communities of opportunity — we cannot afford another two years of their radical policies and disrespect for taxpayers.

My work in Washington is driven by Iowans, and that means being accessible to Iowans. I’ve held an in-person town hall in every county I currently represent, and I have been to every county in the new district multiple times to talk to folks from all walks of life. Iowans across the political spectrum have given me a clear mandate: push back hard against the Biden-Pelosi tax-and-spend agenda, clean up Washington’s act, and get us back on track. And that’s exactly what we’re doing.

As your Congresswoman, my mission is to make sure your tax dollars are being spent wisely and that Washington is serving you, not the other way around.

Shortly after taking office, I introduced legislation to ban former Administration officials from lobbying on behalf of foreign countries. I’ve also backed bills to prevent Members of Congress from receiving a pay raise if the U.S. is running a federal deficit and to force Congress to consider the impact major bills will have on inflation. On the House Appropriations and Budget Committees, I am watching over your money like a hawk and calling out wasteful spending and disregard of taxpayers. Whether it is calling out the Administration’s abhorrent plan to take resources away from our veterans to care for illegal immigrants, or for trying to force hardworking Iowans to pay off someone else’s student loan debt, I refuse to let these abuses go unchallenged. Restoring integrity to public service is a top priority of mine, and while there is a lot more to be done to root out corruption in our nation’s capital and ensure every tax dollar is spent responsibly, I’m committed to cleaning up Washington and putting the swamp in check.

I am running again because this Administration needs to be held accountable and because it is your money they are spending recklessly, not the government’s money. The next generation deserves so much better. It is an honor to work for you in Congress, and I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together, but there is so much more to do for our children, for Iowa, and for our country. Thank you for the opportunity to serve. We are just getting started!
