Congresswoman Ashley Hinson released the following statement on the $1.9 trillion spending bill.

“Despite Republicans’ best efforts to come to an agreement and advance targeted COVID-19 relief for Iowa’s families and small businesses, the final $1.9 trillion bill prioritizes policies completely unrelated to the pandemic.

“Less than nine percent of spending in the bill goes toward public health measures to stop the spread of this virus, and it sends billions of additional taxpayer dollars to schools without requiring them to reopen this year. These common-sense solutions would actually get our economy and country back on the right track.

“The previous five COVID-19 relief bills were bipartisan. The fact that this legislation has received no Republican support shows how partisan and pork-filled this bill is. I hope this isn’t how we do business going forward and that we can come together to solve the real challenges facing Iowans and Americans.”
