Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-01) released the following video statement on the $3.5 trillion spending package authored by Senator Bernie Sanders and pushed by Speaker Pelosi.

“Hi everyone,

“I planned to give the following remarks on the $3.5 trillion dollar budget resolution on the House Floor today on behalf of Iowa’s First District, but because Speaker Pelosi’s House is so chaotic and so dysfunctional, they canceled floor debate on the bill.

“That’s right—Members of Congress aren’t even able to debate spending $3.5 trillion dollars on the House Floor. That’s our job—the bare minimum—but the Speaker only cares about ramming through her radical agenda.

“But, I’ll always do the job and speak up on behalf of Iowa’s First District. And I know Iowans strongly oppose this $3.5 trillion dollar Budget Resolution and the radical policies it will impose.

“Radicals in Washington want to completely restructure the way our society operates. They say we can do this ‘free of charge.’

“But, nothing is free. This package raises taxes, plain and simple.

“Iowa taxpayers will be footing the bill for policies they don’t believe in. With $17 trillion in new debt added, the next generation, and the generation after that, will be paying a hefty price.

“We are voting on this $3.5 trillion liberal wish list at a time when the Administration has abandoned Americans and the Afghans who fought alongside us behind enemy lines.

“In a month when illegal immigrant encounters at our southern border have reached a 21-year high.

“And in the middle of an inflation crisis that has made life less affordable for Iowans.

“Gas prices in Iowa are up 80%. Spending trillions more will drive up prices even further.

“This will disproportionately hurt working families and rural communities, paving the way for tax hikes on the middle class, as well as the death tax that would shut down family farm operations in Iowa.

“It’s no wonder they couldn’t get members of their own party to support it—it’s an impossible sell to the American people who will have to pay for it.

“I urge my colleagues to respect the taxpayers who sent us here and oppose spending trillions more dollars we do not have.”
