Today, Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-01) and Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (NY-21) introduced the Vaccinate Americans, Not Terrorists Act. This legislation will prohibit the federal government from giving the COVID-19 vaccine to those detained at Guantanamo Bay while American citizens have outstanding requests for the vaccine. This resolution was introduced alongside 16 original co-sponsors.

“Every single American citizen who wants a COVID-19 vaccine should get one before any doses are sent to GITMO. The Vaccinate Americans, Not Terrorists Act will ensure that terrorists held in GITMO don’t receive the vaccine before American citizens do. Every dose of the COVID-19 vaccine that was going to be given to a GITMO detainee should go to an Iowanwhether its a police officer in Cedar Rapids, a nurse in Waterloo, or a teacher in Dubuque.” Congresswoman Ashley Hinson, IA-01

“I am proud to build on my resolution Prioritizing COVID-19 Vaccinations of American Citizens by co-sponsoring the Vaccinate Americans, Not Terrorists Act. It is inexcusable and un-American that President Biden is even considering administering vaccines for terrorist detainees before veterans, first responders, 9/11 first responders, and seniors. The prioritization of the American people for the COVID-19 vaccine over terrorists detained at Guantanamo Bay must be the law of the land.”Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, NY-21

Earlier this week, Hinson and Stefanik co-led a resolution to oppose any plans by the United States Department of Defense to deliver COVID-19 vaccines to prisoners held at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay and detained during operations conducted during the Global War on Terrorism until all Americans have had the opportunity to be vaccinated.
