Earlier this week we told you about the new executive director of the Iowa Medical Board, Dennis Tibben. Reports indicated Tibben was hired by the Iowa Medical Board, so we reached out to the Iowa Department of Public Health.

According to IDPH, a committee made up of members of the Iowa Board of Medicine interviewed candidates for the job. The committed recommended hiring Tibben following the interviews.

Iowa law gives the director of the Iowa Department of Public Health the power to appoint board executive directors.

Considering the board’s recommendation, IDPH Director Kelly Garcia appointed Tibben.

Tibben worked nearly 11 years for the Iowa Medical Society. Prior to that, he was the regional organizer for Planned Parenthood of the Heartland. Until last month, Tibben was a lobbyist for the Iowa Chapter of American Academy of Pediatrics and the Iowa Medical Society.

Here are some of the disturbing positions Tibben took as a lobbyist in just the last two years as he opposed the following bills:

*The Medical Freedom and Privacy Act introduced earlier this year.

*A bill that would have required reporting of COVID vaccination information on a death certificate form.

*A bill prohibiting an insurance carrier or plan for group insurance for public employees from providing financial or other incentives to a participating provider based upon attaining a certain vaccine administration rate or from imposing a financial or other penalty on a participating provider who does not attain a certain vaccine administration rate.

*A bill that would have required an entity requiring a COVID vaccine to accept proof of immunity for the virus in lieu of proof of the vaccination.

*A bill that would have added a request for information regarding the date and type of last immunization for a child 0-3 years old who died.

*A bill prohibiting schools from being able to require the COVID vaccine.

*A bill that would have prohibited pharmaceutical product advertisements within school attendance centers and on school grounds. The bill also would have required schools to provide to students a health curriculum that includes the federal National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act, the occurrence of medical errors, the practices of medical informed consent and the rights and responsibilities of patients under the law.

*A bill that required informed consent for medication abortion.

*A bill that would have prohibited tenure systems at institutions of higher learning governed by the board of regents.

*The bill to Protect Women’s Sports.

*The Protect Life Amendment.

*A bill requiring bathroom use in schools to be determined by biological sex.

*A bill prohibiting districts from enrolling students in a course in human growth and development and from facilitating a student’s attendance at an educational conference or seminar that includes information on human growth and development unless the parent files written informed consent with the principal.

*A bill that would ban gender-affirmation treatment for minors.

*A bill that would have prohibited curriculum being used in Iowa schools that includes instruction relating to gender identity. It would have required written permission from a parent of any student in grades 1-6.

However, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health, Tibben has “advocated for the medical profession for years in his prior roles at the Iowa Medical Society and is well respected among members of the medical community.”
