Westview of Indianola Care Center provided employees with a document laying out its plan for the COVID-19 vaccine mandate. Employees are asked to “carefully consider” what the mandate means to their career and the residents of Westview if they decide not to get vaccinated.

“Westview and the residents need you here,” the document states.

If an exemption to the vaccine is approved, employees must agree to the following:

*Wearing of N95 and face shield
*COVID rapid tests before each work shift
*Maintain distance from co-workers and residents including while clocking in/out and during breaks and meals. “Basically you cannot work around other staff or in patient care areas.
*Put in writing that you understand the importance of the screening process and not coming to work when you are experiencing any signs/symptoms of COVID.
*Sanitize hands prior to and after touching any surfaces.
*Use dedicated supplies and equipment.

Anyone who previously filed for an exemption is required to do a new one, agreeing to and explaining how they will meet the requirements.

“Those employees that do not have their first dose of vaccine by Feb. 14 or do not have an approved exemption and a work assignment that meets the guidelines will be removed from the work schedule and their work status will change to variable until such time as the guidelines are met,” the document states. “Sick and vacation pay is not available when on variable status.”

The letter states it is a “national mandate” to all health care facilities.
